20th Annual SoCalBio Conference

The SoCalBio Conference is an annual event organized by the Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio). This conference is preceded by a CEO Reception & Dinner which will feature keynote presentations by distinguished speakers.
The SoCalBio conference showcases Southern California value-based bioscience innovations and explores efficient pathways to bring them to market. In addition to plenary sessions, business roundtables and therapeutic workshops, this conference will feature at least 40 company presentations showcasing the strength and future of the bioscience industry in Los Angeles/Orange County and neighboring communities.
Peter Emtage | SVP, Global Head of Cell Therapy Research Kite Pharma Inc
Peter Emtage serves as the Global Head of Cell Therapy Research at Kite, a Gilead company. He most recently served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Cell Design Labs. He previously held senior positions at Intrexon, MedImmune and Femta Pharmaceuticals. Peter is an immunologist by training and over the past 20 years has focused on developing drugs to modulate the immune response in humans. His work in oncology, autoimmunity and infectious disease has included the utilization of viral and non-viral delivery systems, chimeric antigen receptors and TCR adoptive T cell modalities, and monoclonal antibodies in checkpoint blockade and immuno-oncology.
His career started with a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health followed by his role as Research Scientist at Aventis Pasteur and then Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Ryan Helwig | Principal and Project Director TEConomy Partners
Ryan joined TEConomy Partners from his previous position as a senior economist with the Technology Partnership Practice at Battelle. Mr. Helwig is an accomplished economist and consulting professional with more than 15 years of experience spanning the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
His experience encompasses an early career spent with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Economic Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., followed by senior project management experience within Battelle prior to cofounding TEConomy Partners in 2015.
Ryan has an M.A. in Economics from The George Washington University and a B.S. in Business and Economics from Miami University.
